The only event I have ever done in what I would call the real South (Camden, South Carolina) was a treat: people welcomed us with open arms, fed us like crazy and generally loved us to death. But then, we were Americans doing a Revy War event... - Jonah

Driving Through Georgia

by Matt Merta

Driving to a reenactment in a southern state,
Wearing Federal uniforms with northern license plates,
South of Mason-Dixon we're what everybody hates!
While we were driving through Georgia!

CHORUS: Hurrah! Hurrah! Let's get the Yankee boys!
Hurrah! Hurrah! One of many southern joys!
So we rolled the windows up and didn't make a noise!
While we were driving through Georgia!

Stopped into a grocery store to pick up some supplies,
Southern hospitality was taken by surprise!
Suddenly we're being watched by all-avenging eyes!
While we were driving through Georgia!

(Chorus)

Trying to explain to them we only reenact!
They're all reaching for their shotguns hanging on the rack!
They pointed towards New England and said "Go! And don't come back!"
While we were driving through Georgia!

(Chorus)

Got into our car and drove with speed that would not fail,
Like to leave this town before we're run out on a rail!
Hate to have to phone someone to Western Union bail!
While we were driving through Georgia!

(Chorus)

Finally got to the event and OH BOY! What a day!
Only trouble is we've got to drive back the same way....
Next time make sure someone's wearing butternut or grey!
While we were driving through Georgia!
