Porter Wagoner LP Covers
The other day I was at a Borders Books looking at a volume entitled "Vinyl Cowboys" (or something like that), a collection of the great jacket art that graced country-western records. My favorite was the work of Porter Wagoner, who surely must have had the most consistently outrageous cover art of any Nashville star. Back in the Seventies, flipping through LP's in a bin, I'd always stop, amazed, at the cover of "The Carroll County Accident." That pose! Those wagon wheels! That sweat! What showmanship!
What follows is an appreciation of those classic LP jackets - and a (fanciful) look at the troubled life of a man.
